The guesthouse arranged everything for me a driver, permits, and a guided excursion into the desert.
The drive itself was an experience, passing Lake Qarun and the endless stretches of desert until we reached the UNESCO site. Walking among the fossilized whale skeletons was surreal; you can almost picture the ancient sea that once covered this land. The small museum at the entrance gave great context, but what struck me most was the silence and vastness of the valley itself.
After a long day under the desert sun, it was such a relief to return to the calm of Tunis Village. At Waterside Loft, I could sit by the water in the evening, reflecting on how unique it is to spend the day among 40-million-year-old fossils and then return to a cozy countryside retreat.

Magnifique périple dans le temps grâce à ce passionné et spécialiste de la paléontologie, de la géographie et de l’histoire de l’oasis dont il est originaire. Également de très intéressantes discussions autour de la gestion de l’eau depuis l’Antiquite qu’il étudie en ce moment. Sans compter sa grande gentillesse ainsi que celle de son chauffeur.
Vous pouvez y aller les yeux fermés !
