The island is located in the northern western part of Qaroun Lake. A 30 minute boat ride takes you to this lovely island to enjoy one of the best exploring experiences in the Fayoum Oasis.

Qasr Qaroun Temple Sun Festival “The Wonder of the Sun – Winter Solstic” 21 December
The phenomenon of the alignment of the sun on Qasr Qaroun temple is as important as that of the great temple of Abu Simbel.
Despite the differences between the two temples regarding each one’s Location, Goal and Date of Foundation, in addition to, the differences regarding each one’s Sun alignment date, however ,both have resemblance regarding sun rotation at the holy of the holies of the two temples at the time of the sun rises.
Qasr El Sagha Temple
Hidden in the desert in the north of Lake Qaroun, and in fact blending into the hills behind it, the temple was lost years ago and discovered by the archaeologist Schweinfurth in 1884.

1- Bird Watching
Fayoum is a habitat for resident and migratory birds, especially in winter. About 162 species of migratory and resident birds were listed including: flamingos, herons, ibis, spoonbills, skylarks, hoopoes, bee eaters…etc. Season one starts in mid September through the end of April with its peak being from mid December to the end of March. Season two starts in mid April through the end of August. The best time for watching is one hour before sunrise or directly before sunset.
